 The form of the classes: laboratory

 The number of hours in a semester: 30

 The number of hours during the week: 2

 Form of passing the class: a grade (4 ECTS credits) or an exam (6 ECTS credits)

 The aim of the course:

 Empowering the students to achieve language fluency on A1 level, which will allow them to communicate on the basic level in speech and writing with the users of Polish language in different areas of life.

Additional aims are: intellectual development, learning about another culture, developing curiosity and tolerance towards other nations, strengthening motivation to learn the Polish language and learning about Polish socio-cultural realities.

 Scope:

The material covers several thematic areas. Topics can be modified, broadened, for example, according to the needs of the students or their interests. The usual scope of the material consists of the following: human, family, everyday life, ways of spending free time, place of living, places, means of transport, work, education, food, shopping and services, health and personal hygiene, natural environment.The curriculum takes into account grammar-syntactic, stylistic and functional topics.

 Teaching methods:

Polymethods: work in groups, individual work (independently and under the supervision of a teacher), work in pairs (independently and under the supervision of a teacher). Working with the textbook: phonetic and grammar exercises on the basis of textbooks, role play, drama, listening to the texts, interpretation of audiovisual material, working with dictionaries, speaking (dialog and description).

 Learning outcomes:

General learning outcomes - developing: 

1. communication competences in public, private, educational and professional areas of live;

2. the linguistic competence in the scope of grammar, lexis, orthography and phonology;

3. the sociolinguistic competence - mastering the basic communication strategies, acquiring basic pieces of information on Poland, its culture and history.

Detailed learning outcomes

Students understand:

a) globally and selectively short simple utterances - continuous and characteristic of a dialogue, with a clear structure, when the pace of speaking is slow, the speech is careful;

b) globally and selectively simple short written texts (e.g. announcement, form, description etc.) with a very clear structure.

Students can:

a) express the intentions and utilize language functions, using vocabulary and grammatical structures in the scope intended for level A1;

b) write simple singular expressions and sentences, filling out the forms with personal data.

Moreover, students possess sufficient vocabulary for expressing basic communicational needs related to everyday life (around 1000 words). They can recognize and correctly use basic grammatical forms, write words, expressions and phrases known for them. They know and use pronunciation rules which allow them to understand the content of made utterances.

 Verification of learning outcomes and the conditions of passing the classes:

presence during classes, spoken and written statements in class, positive mark on the test verifying learning outcomes or an exam.
